The 9th Plenary Meeting of the Research Data Alliance (RDA) took place in Barcelona, Spain, from 5 to 7 April 2017. The RDA Plenary Meetings constitute a major event where more than 4000 members from 100 countries come together to discuss, develop and promote data-sharing and data-driven research infrastructure through Working and Interest Groups. The Interest Group on Agricultural Data (IGAD) pre-meeting took place just a couple of days before the 9th RDA plenary meeting, from 3 to 4 April 2017 and attracted more than 100 participants from all over the world.
The first day the IGAD pre-meeting included presentations related to the topics of agrisemantics, data interoperability, data sharing, as well as capacity development.
Agroknow had the opportunity to present SC2’s pilot demonstrator developed in the context of H2020 BigDataEurope project, namely VITIS, a toolkit for supporting Viticulture practice, which ranges from web-based environments for data management, and visualization to mobile apps (and sensors) for in-field data collection. The presentation focused on the heterogeneity of the supported data pool as well as the data-sharing tools and environments available for end-users. The second day of the pre-meeting was devoted to intensive discussions and interactions between the participants who had the opportunity to exchange ideas, knowledge and experience given their different scientific backgrounds.
All conclusions of the IGAD pre-meeting were brought to the 9th RDA Plenary Meeting during the Agricultural Data Interest Group session showcasing concrete plans of action in the context of RDA’s mission, opening up access to agricultural data.
